DNRO form now includes Autonomous APRNs for signature

Posted 30 days ago by Vicky Stone-Gale

FNPN is pleased to announce the long-awaited print changes on the Florida DO NOT RESUSCITATE ORDER (DNRO) form now includes all licensed professionals who are eligible by rule to sign this form including Florida Autonomous Nurse Practitioners. The rule is under the Division of Emergency Preparedness & Community Support.

FNPN members and their lobbyist, Allison Carvajal were instrumental in passing the autonomous Nurse Practitioner bill passed in 2020 and four members of FNPN were appointed to the Council on Advanced Practice Registered Nurses Autonomous Practice to make recommendations to the Board of Nursing for the standards of practice for autonomous APRN’s in Florida. The appointees were Dr. Vicky Stone-Gale, First VP of Legislation, Dr. Kathleen Wilson, Capitol Liaison, Dr. Charitta Ernewein, Region 3 Director, and Dr. Mary Kay Miller, CNM.

Recall that all Physician Assistants obtained  this authority (https://www.aapa.org/news-central/2021/06/more-barriers-to-pa-practice-fall-as-florida-pas-celebrate-legislative-win) in 2021 as well.  FNPN will be continuing to work to include all licensed nurse practitioners who remain under current restricted protocols to have this authority as well! Removal of practice barriers is critical for those who work in medical settings but are under protocol and not listed on this form.
